Load rating
Calculating the maximum load
To calculate the weight each castor will need to be rated to hold, divide the total load by 3. You divide by 3 because equipment is often moving on just three wheels.
If your equipment uses more than 4 castors, or if the conditions are exceptionally demanding, please contact us for advice on calculating the maximum load.
All the loading values on this site are valid for a maximum speed of 4km/hr on a generally smooth surface and to a temperature of 20 ºC. (Wheel 2000 castors, Tango castors and castors designed for furniture, equipment and light equipment are valid for a maximum speed of 3km/hr).
Light equipment castors have a load rating of up to 50kg per castor. Equipment castors have a load rating of 50kg to 100kg per castor. Industrial castors have a load rating of 140kg to 400kg per castor.
Shock loading
Shock loading occurs when equipment moves from one surface to another or when heavy loads are dropped onto it. If shock loads cannot be avoided, you can choose castors that can cope with them better. Choose castors with wheels that have:
- elastic treads
- larger diameters
- sufficient load reserves (calculate this by dividing a four-wheeled wagon’s total loaded weight by a maximum of 2).
